Menopause supplements
Everyone looks
forward to going through the menopause right? Surely not! You get the hot
flushes, the urgent need to pee, the discomfort during sex, there has to be
something to make life a little easier out there?
There are many menopause
supplements and foods out there on the market which are specially designed for
menopausal ladies to help them have a better time during the menopause. Not
many people know about the supplements as the menopause still seems to be a bit
of a taboo subject among some people. However, here are a few ideas to help you
gain some sort of relief.
- This #1 menopause support complex is especially formulated with standardized herbal extracts
- Reduces hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings
- Relieves anxiety, stress, depression, anger - Improves general well-being |
Hot Flushes
Black Cohosh is
said to be a great Supplement, used in America among menopausal women. The
supplement is created from the root of the American Black Cohosh plant. Many
studies have found that Black Cohosh helps with Hot flushes, the reduction was
26% of woman had less hot flushes, but there are also studies which counteract
the studies.
It is advised
strongly that you do not use this if you have any liver function problems,
although the best advice is to try to avoid the hot flush triggers in the first
place, although fair enough, it is not always as easy as it first appears.
Caffeine, hot rooms, hot and spicy foods can be triggers.
Night Sweats
Flaxseed and
flaxseed oil are said to be perfect for night sweats which can be caused by
menopausal symptoms. If you look into Flaxseed you will see that a good source
of Lignan comes from it.
You have not
heard of Lignan? Ok! Lignan is a name for a handful of chemical compounds in
which you will find within plants. Lignans are classed as one of the major
phytoestrogen groups. They tend to mimic estrogen and also anti-oxidants.
Lignans will help to balance out the female hormones for a better night sleep without
the sweats.
Bone loss and deterioration
Years ago you
always had your parents telling you to drink plenty of milk, it is good for
your teeth and bones, and you won’t grow strong if you don’t drink it, well? Do
you still take heed of their warnings? Bone loss can become something of a
major issue for some people once the menopause has taken a hold due to the
changes in hormone levels.
For fear of
sounding like a stuck record, I will re-iterate that Calcium is crucial for
women as they age and take the journey through the menopause. If you are under
the age of 50 then it is advisable that you take 1,000 milligrams of calcium a
day, and over 50 take 1,200 milligrams a day. Joint as a point of note, don’t
take one large dose, take two or three with meals during the day, this helps your
body absorb it better.
Vitamin D, Everyone loves a bit of sunshine
Vitamin and
Calcium go together like Jam and toast. You need Calcium as much as you need
vitamin D; they are both crucial for healthy bones as you journey through the
menopause. Most adults need somewhere in the region of 600 IU’s a day of
Vitamin D. Yes, you can get your Vitamin D from your foods, but isn’t it more
fun to enjoy the sun and get it?
In the
summertime, do take it easy, do not overdo it and get sunburnt, you only need
ten to fifteen minutes in the sun and you will have had your daily allowance of
Vitamin D, fair enough it might not be as easy to do this in the winter, but it
is still possible.
Wild Yam as a fantastic alternative to HRT
It has become
quite a well-known fact that wild yam has become very popular for women in
their menopause. It is a fantastic alternative to HRT which does not suit
everyone; it is great to know for us women that there is a great natural
menopause treatment alternative.
The reason it
works so well is that the chemical compounds within the plant are very similar
to estrogen and progesterone. However, there have been clinical studies which
dispute the claim that wild yam helps and say that the estrogen and
progesterone do not work in humans during the menopause.
Ginseng: The mood booster
There have been
people for years who believe that taking Ginseng helps their moods and quality
of life when it comes to sleeping and mood swings and this is particularly the
case during the menopause.
Needless to
say, there is always someone out there to put the dampeners on things and
dispute the claims that there is any real difference to the physical symptoms
of the menopause such as hot flushes and night sweats which will disrupt your
sleep, there is also the concern that Ginseng has been known to contribute to
heart problems in some women. Speak to your doctor before using this menopause
supplements.
As a final
thought, I would like to point out the fact that although these herbs and supplements
are said to work, I would like you to bear in mind that these supplements are
not as heavily tested for their power to work when it comes to the menopause as
medical intervention. Medical intervention has a full research program. Much of
what is said about herbs and supplements is coincidence and not based on
scientific fact.
I would like to
take this opportunity to suggest that before you try any of the supplements
that I have mentioned above, please speak with your doctor or medical
professional to ensure that there is nothing within the supplement which is
going to cause you any harm. Prevention is better than a cure. Ginseng for
example has been reported to add to problems with women’s hearts, although this
is rare.
