Menopause Diagnosis:
There are 8 out of every 10 people who will experience symptoms of the
menopause in the run up to the beginning of it. This can be put down to the
Perimenopause, but also it is a sign of the oestrogen dropping and the eggs
decreasing in ovulation. Out of these 8 people to 10 people, 45% of them will
find the symptoms of the menopause very difficult to cope with making them
depressed. You are not alone.
There tends to be a change in the period, such as the amount of bleeding
that you endure is normally more than you normally experience and maybe they
will start fortnightly instead of monthly or they can disappear for months at a
time until the time when they completely disappear. Once they have been absent
for a year this if officially when the menopause starts.

After you start noticing these symptoms and you start to become
uncomfortable with them, then go to your doctor. He can help you with the
symptoms and help you to understand more. He may suggest that you try some HRT
to help you to get through the menopause, but not all of the patients who try
HRT cope with it ok. Do not suffer in silence.
Just because you have gone through the menopause, do not become
complacent about contraception. You may think that now you have gone through
the menopause and you are not producing eggs any more there is no way that you
are going to get pregnant; this is not the case at all. You can still get
pregnant up to two years post menopause.
How is the menopause diagnosed?
There is no specific test which will confirm that you are going through
the menopause, thus meaning that there is not a diagnosis for the naturally occurring
condition. The best diagnosis that you will find is when the lady turns 50, you
can pretty much guarantee that if you have not already began the menopause then
you will do within the next four years, you will already be going through the
Perimenopause.
There are home kits which you can get hold of which will show up raised
levels of FSH levels which are the Follicle stimulating Hormones which show
themselves in your urine. The symptoms
of the menopause are also a great menopause diagnosis tool:-
·
Lack or
menstrual periods – More than a year without a period
·
Heart
palpitations – Heart racing and then slowing down again.
·
Hot flushes –
You will find that they were worse within the first year or two
·
Sweats in the
night – Preventing you from sleeping. You get hot, strip off then get colder
·
Blushing –
Flushing of the skin, cheeks going red, looking as though you were embarrassed
even though you are not
·
Insomnia –
Sleep problems are a normal occurrence during the menopause albeit a complete
nuisance.
·
Vaginal dryness
– May include a complete lack of sexual desire.
